The Super Bowl Rescue

“They thought I was just another number. But Rahab’s Daughters saw me.” – Jasmine

When Jasmine arrived in Las Vegas for the Super Bowl, she wasn’t there for the halftime show or the bright lights. She was trafficked across two state lines by a man who had promised her love, freedom, and a better life—but delivered only control, violence, and fear.

By then, Jasmine was 19. She had been groomed for months online, lured by promises of modelling gigs and fast cash. Once he had her trust, her trafficker isolated her from family and friends, took her phone, her ID, and eventually her voice. In Vegas, she was kept in a luxury hotel suite where no one asked questions. Her trafficker told her what to wear, when to smile, and what to say to the “buyers.” She was just another girl in high heels, another disposable commodity in a week where trafficking spikes by up to 50% behind the glitz of America’s biggest sporting event.

But Jasmine wasn’t invisible.

Rahab’s Daughters had been preparing for months—training volunteers, partnering with local law enforcement, and working with hotel staff. Our outreach teams were on the ground, offering hygiene kits and kindness to the women they met, knowing many were there against their will.

When Jasmine opened the hotel door to one of our volunteers, she expected another customer. But instead, she found a woman who looked her in the eye and handed her a small toiletry bag with a soft voice that simply said, “You’re not alone. There’s help if you want it.”

Inside the bag was a card with the Rahab’s Daughters 24/7 hotline number and a note:

“You are treasured! Call if you need help.”

Jasmine didn’t say anything. She couldn’t. Her trafficker was watching from across the suite. But when no one was looking, she tucked the card into her sock.

That night, when he passed out drunk, she locked herself in the bathroom and called the number with trembling hands.

Within 45 minutes, our mobile rescue team was on-site. With trained professionals and a mental health liaison, Jasmine was safely extracted and taken to a partner crisis intake shelter—an undisclosed safehouse where she could sleep, eat, and finally breathe. For the first time in two years, no one was demanding anything from her.

She was sent to our Midwest safehouse. She stayed with us for nearly eight months. In that time, she met with a trauma counsellor, went through our survivor-led mentoring program, and completed her GED. She learned to cook her favourite meals again. She cried, laughed, doubted—and healed.

Today, Jasmine is a college student studying social work. But every February, she takes time off from school to volunteer with our Super Bowl phone outreach team—the same team that reached her when she needed it most.

“I wear the same boots I wore that night,” she says. “And every time I hand a girl that hotline card, I say a little prayer she tucks it into her sock, too.”
