  • India ranks 1st globally for human trafficking victims, according to the Global Slavery Index.
  • Over 8 million people are living in modern slavery in India alone—most of them women and girls.
  • Only 14% of businesses in India are owned by women, despite women making up nearly half the population.
  • Globally, just 1 in 4 leadership roles are held by women—and in low-income communities, that number drops even further.
  • More than 40% of girls in South Asia drop out of school before completing secondary education, often due to poverty, early marriage, or unsafe environments.

This program is designed to reverse those numbers—by equipping 125 women with the tools to lead, grow, and build a safer future for those around them.

One woman was brought to the U.S. under false promises of marriage. She was forced into caregiving and abused daily. A concerned neighbor called for help—and we stepped in. Today, she’s safe, healing, and on the path to rebuilding her life. This is what trafficking can look like. And this is why prevention matters. When women are empowered, they don’t have to depend on unsafe relationships—they stand on their own.
She thought she was accepting a great job opportunity abroad. The recruiter promised steady work at a hotel. But when she arrived, her passport was taken, and she was forced to work long hours without pay, with no way to leave. It was only after months of isolation and fear that she found a way to contact her family—who then reached out to us. With coordination, we helped bring her home and connect her with a safe space and legal support. This is what labor trafficking looks like. This is why economic empowerment and education are powerful tools for prevention.
She was 30 when a distant relative told her about a job in a garment factory. It sounded like a good opportunity—steady work and a place to stay. But when she got there, things were different. Her ID was taken. She was barely paid. She wasn’t allowed to leave the factory without permission. She kept working because she didn’t know what else to do. It wasn’t until a local outreach team visited for a routine health check that anyone realized something was wrong. With their help, she got out.
